Embrace Your Skin

Why you should not panic about having acne

Let’s be honest, it’s not always easy to live with acne, especially as a teenager! It can be especially hard when you want to make a good impression, or when your friends have clear skin.

Psychologists always say that adolescence is often a fragile period when you’re developing an image of yourself.

“I don’t feel comfortable taking a selfie without a filter…”

Let’s put things into perspective, 80% of teenagers have acne. What you need to understand, is that acne is just a phase, not the most fun one, sure, but it will pass. Especially if you talk about it and adopt a healthy daily routine.

Tackling acne in FIGHT MODE

Good news #1

It always seems worse than it actually is… Doctors call it dysmorphia, meaning that you have a totally exaggerated image of any physical flaws compared with reality. Above all, it’s important to remember that we are not defined by acne. We are individuals, with qualities, faults and talents. Acne cannot win; we must protect our self-confidence and keep in mind that social media does not always reflect reality.

As a result:

we feel like people can only see our pimples but really, they don’t!

Good news #2

There are so many ways of getting rid of acne

You just need the courage to talk about it, rather than feeling sorry for yourself in the bathroom. You can start a conversation with your parents, if you get along well. If not, with friends or family. If necessary, don’t hesitate to consult a dermatologist or even your general practitioner or your pharmacist, who can find the right solutions for you. Quite quickly, you will feel less alone…

In the end, the hardest part is accepting the idea and going to the doctor for a diagnostic. Once again, almost all teenagers have acne, it’s not the end of the world (even if it may seem like it is sometimes).

You can have pimples or skin issues but loads of other qualities. What about focusing on that, rather than looking in a magnifying glass 30 times a day? Today, there are lots of solutions for all kinds of imperfections.

Good hygiene, good habits, suitable treatment. It’s not so hard!
